The Commodore C64/C128 PSU PRO is a truly new, original design. It supports C64/C128 computers and 1541-II/1581 FDDs, keeping the same redundant protections as our regular PSU line while adding unique features not found elsewhere. A new intelligent architecture actively distributes power where it’s needed most (5 VDC / 12 VDC) and reduces losses (heat). Total output power is now 31.6 W; output ripple is significantly lower on both 5 V and 12 V rails; and no-load 9 VAC matches original C64/C128 levels (per your feedback). Most importantly, you can adjust the 5 VDC output in a safe 5.0–5.5 V range to dial in an exact 5.0 V for your individual system and expansions.

Everything is integrated into a compact, well-known enclosure with dimensions similar to the original C64 PSU (and much smaller than the C128 PSU). The durable, professionally molded case ensures ventilation, mechanical protection and electrical isolation. The trimming potentiometer sits in a discreet, secure location.

We are proud that our original PSU concept became a recognized industry standard worldwide. Sadly, it has also been copied and compromised by sellers chasing “easy” profit — fancy cases plus empty slogans like “designed from scratch.” Please beware: we cannot take responsibility for the safety, quality, or performance of such clones.

TIPS

C128: Due to higher current draw on C128 systems, we recommend ordering the C128 output cable version, especially if your PSU powers both the C128 and a 1541-II/1581 simultaneously. A C64-to-C128 adapter can be used, but expect a larger cable voltage drop (the maximum adjustment may not reach a full 5.0 V on heavily loaded systems with an FDD running).

1541-II & 1581 FDD: Cable voltage drop differs between the computer and the FDD cable when used together. The FDD typically receives ~0.2 V higher than the computer. On C128 (high current), set the computer 5 V as low as possible while retaining stability (4.8–5.0 V measured on the mainboard) so the FDD stays close to 5.0 V. The adjustment range is safe; aim for a balanced “common denominator” (e.g., 4.9 V at the computer yielding ~5.1 V at the FDD).

Adjustment: The potentiometer is on the safe, low-voltage side, with a guided screwdriver hole to prevent internal shorting. Always use an insulated screwdriver (ideally plastic). Keep the rubber cap on the adjustment hole during normal use to prevent dust or liquids from entering.
