A modern, safe replacement power supply for the Commodore Plus/4 with the original square 4-pin connector. Provides clean, regulated 5 VDC up to 4.0 A with low ripple and a true 9 VAC rail from a robust linear transformer—just like the original design. Standard protections include OVP/OCP and short-circuit safeguards; the optional Protect & Adjust LED module adds 5 V fine-trim and rail status indication. Built to protect logic, RAM and the TED chipset while replacing aging “brick of death” units. Universal 100–250 VAC input for EU/US operation.

Released in 1984, the Commodore Plus/4 wasn’t the commercial hit the C64 was—but it brought interesting ideas for its time: ROM-integrated software, a faster CPU, a 4× faster FDD, more colors, a new BASIC v3.5 (with new commands and fewer bugs), and a smaller, more modern case compared to the C64 “breadbin,” ZX Spectrum, and Atari 800XL. The biggest misstep was software incompatibility with the C64, alongside hardware oddities (joysticks, datasette, etc.). One thing both Plus/4 and C64 share, however, is the same PSU concept—the infamous “brick of death,” a top cause of failures. Thanks to years of community education, many Commodore users now understand this risk—good!
Our replacement Plus/4 PSU is a modern replacement power supply for Commodore Plus/4 computers. It provides clean, regulated 5 VDC (up to 4.0 A) from an industrial-grade AC/DC stage and a true 9 VAC (1.11 A max) from a robust linear transformer—just like the original design. Everything fits a compact enclosure with proportions similar to the factory unit. A durable, professionally molded case ensures ventilation, mechanical protection and electrical isolation. The unique square 4-pin plug is custom-made for this PSU (no longer available off-the-shelf), which is why some users convert the Plus/4 socket to 7-pin DIN like the C64 for convenience—personally I prefer to keep the machine original. :)

For many years we’ve listened to your feedback and delivered a unique, purpose-built replacement PSU for Commodore computers. With continuous input from the global community, our design improves with every revision—this is the 12th, engineered with retro-computing care by active Commodore users and collectors.
We’re proud that our original PSU has become a widely accepted industry standard. Unfortunately, it has been copied—often simplified and stripped of protections—by sellers chasing “easy” profit, wrapped in fancy cases and empty slogans like “designed from scratch.” Please beware: we cannot vouch for the safety, quality or performance of these clones.

The Protect & Adjust hardware adds a basic 5 V fine-tune in a safe, limited range of 4.9–5.3 VDC (measured with a Plus/4 as the reference load). You can dial in an exact 5.00 V for your system—useful as aging, peripherals and cable drops vary by setup. It’s especially handy when switching between C64C, C64 “breadbin,” Plus/4 or C128 via adapters (each draws slightly different current and voltage).
If you need more advanced adjustment (wider range, higher precision, premium components, ultra-low ripple), see our Plus/4 PRO PSU model.

Risk of electric shock and energy hazard when opened. Service must be performed by qualified technicians only. Protect ventilation openings from foreign objects and moisture. Do not install near heat sources or in hot, dusty or damp locations. For indoor use only. Do not exceed the rated output current or wattage.
This replacement Commodore Plus/4 PSU is designed for Commodore Plus/4 vintage computer systems only and should be considered an integral component of the Commodore Plus/4 system. Do not connect to other devices. The manufacturer is not responsible for consequences of unauthorized repairs, modifications or misuse. A new PSU reduces failure risk but cannot guarantee overall health of a ~40-year-old system.
